Harper has been in a secret romantic relationship with Alpha Connor for five long years. She waits patiently, hoping her lover will make their bond public and stand with her under the Moon Goddess for a sacred wolf‑clan moon‑vow ceremony. Instead, she discovers Connor is about to hold this very ritual with Maddie — her best friend of more than ten years. Connor claims registering as Maddie's official mate and going through the vow ceremony is only a practical measure. Maddie's father is critically ill and requires the spousal‑level pack medical benefits to afford his treatment. He begs Harper for understanding, yet he comfortably plays the perfect fiancé in Maddie's household. All those times he turned down Harper's invitations to go home for holidays under the excuse of work, he was actually staying by Maddie's side. To make the farce complete, Connor and Maddie pressure Harper into working as Maddie's maid of honor. They weaponize small‑town gossip and community reputation, forcing her to swallow five years of devotion and heartbreak for the sake of their dignified ceremony. On the day of the moon‑vow, Harrison, Connor's fierce business rival from the Blackstone Pack, crashes the event and exposes Connor's hypocrisy. To shield her family from vicious local rumors, Harper makes a desperate public lie: she announces Harrison is her boyfriend. Harrison quickly plays along and slips into the fake‑boyfriend role. Plunged into regret after losing Harper, Connor spirals into obsessive pursuit, desperate to annul his mate record with Maddie and win her back. Maddie, in turn, pours out years of pent‑up jealousy, confessing how she has always resented living in Harper's shadow. With her five‑year secret romance shattered beyond repair, Harper turns her back on her self‑delusional ex‑lover and her treacherous best friend. She refuses to compromise for a broken relationship, reclaims her self‑respect, and steps forward toward a new life.
