Laila, a destitute widow, is forced off a cliff by the tyrannical Governor Barrow—only to fall into the sacred dragon realm. There, she spends one fateful night with King Kael, a dragon sovereign bound by a deadly curse that burns any woman he touches. Ten months later, she gives birth to a royal dragon egg. Hunted by Barrow, she desperately entrusts the egg to the dragon clan. When the temple issues a decree seeking one who can hatch the egg, Laila tears down the royal notice and steps forward. Despite scorn and humiliation from the nobles, she reunites with Kael. In the end, it is her unconditional mother's love that awakens the dying egg—and a penniless commoner becomes the mother of the dragon clan's sole heir.
